Over the years there have been bands that for one reason or another I never gave an honest chance or simply flat out overlooked them. Evocation is another band to add to that admittedly too long of a list. Hailing from Sweden, the band formed right after the front runner bands of Gothenburg and Stockholm were founded. Unfortunately for many, myself included, they often didn't receive the same fanfare. It certainly didn't help that they put it on the shelf for a while back in 1993. For many others, since reuniting in 2005, they're still one of the true Swedish death metal bands remaining.

Dead Calm Chaos was originally released in 2008 and now re-released in 2012 via Metal Blade in North America. It was technically their 2nd full length. Speaking of those front runners of Sweden, when these guys dusted the band off that shelf it was seemingly left untouched. This sounds like a perfect conglomerate of all that is 90s Swedish death metal with slightly modern sounds (mainly production).

There is something about the dark melodies these Swedish bands use, I'm a complete sucker for it. Does this sound like anything we haven't heard before? Not by a long shot. I don't care, the songwriting on the album is incredibly solid and damn catchy. It embodies everything I love about their country's genre, imagine an incredible mix of early Dark Tranquillity and early Entombed. That honestly should interest anybody that likes metal.
